Evaluate before you date

Well Sam, my problem is about boys. How do I know which one is good for me without dating and disobeying God? What if he’s not a Christian?

God bless you, Love cub

Dear Love Cub: While I don’t think dating is disobeying God, I do think a girl has got to be wise! Evaluate before you date! It will narrow down your choices. Then you only need to date a few guys (not leave a path of broken hearts, one of which might be yours!) before you find the right one. So before he get’s with you, he must pass these tests.
  • Does he have the same faith? Matters of faith are very important. For example, if you both believe that sex before marriage is wrong, there will be less opportunity to compromise. Amos 3:3 says How can two walk together unless they agree?
  • Is he a good guy? Check out his attitude to his parents, his schoolwork, his choice of words. He might say he’s a Christian, but do his actions line up? Matthew 7:17 says, A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.
  • What are his goals for his life? God has a plan and purpose for you. Don’t date someone who’s going in a different direction. If you stay with him long term, you may end up sacrificing your dreams. Phillipians 3:12 tells us to press on and take hold of that for which Christ Jesus laid hold of you.
If you set yourself up for success, you won’t disobey God!

Sam
