Dear Samantha: There’s this guy at school that keeps bothering me and wants to go out with me. I think he’s nice, but I don’t like him in that way. Should I go out with him so I don’t hurt his feelings?

Dear Confused: Dating someone “just to be nice” isn’t good for anyone. The more you get to know him, the harder it will be to say goodbye. You could find yourself committing to a relationship that was not good for you from the start. The truth is, he is going to get some hurt now or more hurt later. So be honest upfront (but you don’t have to be rude). Tell him he’s a great guy, but you're not interested in him as a boyfriend.
