STOP listening to that music!

Dear Sam: I listen to songs that have rude words i never say the words if i sing it out loud and i know they are bad and dont say them at all but because they have bad words should i stop listening to them?

Song Sorried

Hey Song Sorried: Think about this phrase carefully.

We think how we think, feel how we feel and act how we act because we believe what we believe.

What we believe is determined by what we listen to and watch. Our ears and our eyes are the doorway to our heart. The words that we hear, no matter if we repeat them or not, are going into our heart, and have the power to shape it both positively and negatively.

A bible verse says “Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of your heart comes all the issues of life”. In other words, the concerns or problems (issues) you have in life come from your heart. If your heart has been fed negative, wrong and hurtful messages, those messages have the potential to become an issue at some time in your life.

Think of it this way, if your heart is being fed negative, destructive messages through music, you begin to think about it. If you think about it long enough, it will shape the way you feel. When you feel bad, you make bad decisions based on the feeling. Now you've got an issue to deal with.

It's not whether you are saying the words and hurting other people, the words are hurting you!

My answer is yes! Stop listening those songs. There's lots of positive, encouraging Christian music out there, of every genre. You're worth it!
