I don't want to be enemies

Dear Sam: There is this one girl at school who hates me. I never did anything to her, but I am told constantly how she badmouths me behind my back. I try to ignore it, but it is really starting to annoy me, even though what she says is not true. How can I try to get her to stop? I don't want any enemies.

Hurt

Dear Hurt: The old rhyme “sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me” couldn’t be farther from the truth. Gossip and badmouthing is very painful!

People who put others down do it to feel better about them self. It’s not really about you, it’s about her and her lack of self-confidence. Keep your attitude right. Don’t retaliate with hurtful words. Forgive her and pray for her. You are never responsible for other peoples’ actions or attitudes, only our own.

Thanks for asking.
