Feeling Stressed

Hi Sam: What’s the best thing to do when I feel stressed other then pray or read my bible?

Dear Amy;

You have the most important things down already. Reading your bible and praying. I'm glad you’ve got that down. Here are a few other things you can try.

1) Prioritize things that need to be done.

a. Important and Urgent (ex. Assignment due tomorrow morning)
b. Important but not Urgent (ex. Getting together with friends)
c. Unimportant and not Urgent (chatting on msn).

When you organize yourself, you won't feel as overwhelmed and you'll be able to manage your time better.

2)Take time to nurture yourself. When you’ve done a good job or completed something that was challenging for you, take time to reward yourself. De-stress. A bubble bath- just to be alone, listen to your favorite CD, pet your dog, or call a friend. Nurturing and rewarding ourselves helps us stay positive for the next stressful challenge comes along.

3)If the stress is due to situations you cannot control, be sure to invite an adult that you trust, that is not involved in the situation to help. Your youth worker, a friend’s mom or your teacher might be able to give you some advise for your situation.
