Girl Stuff on Faces
Beautiful Skin !
What’s it Take ?
first ya’ cleanse . . . . then ya’ tone . . . . last ya’ moisturize
You can do your skin care in less time than it takes you to brush your teeth and if you continue. . . . you can have beautiful skin all your life!
Step One: Cleansing Your Face: — time: 45 seconds
• When you’re around 13, you may be ready to start your skin care.
Begin gently applying a mild facial cleanser onto your dampened face, every night. Do this in front of a mirror, over the sink, ok?
• You know what ? . . . ‘soap’ dries your skin and leaves a residue (scum) that makes skin appear dull. Don’t use soap on your face.
• Some facial cleansers are formulated especially for teens’ oil prone skin. Some even contain little, gritty, nutri-beads which help exfoliate (rub off) dead surface skin cells, while you’re cleansing. Removing dead cells exposes fresh, new, healthy skin.
• Rinse the cleanser off by splashing warm water over your face, several times.
If your skin reacts badly (gets a big rash) after using a product , stop using it. In about a week you could try using a different product. If you have really tough acne problems, it would be good to see a dermatologist.
Step Two: Toning Your Face:— time: 10 seconds
• Toning is like a rinse in your washer.
• Splash some toner from a bottle onto a cotton ball or pad, and gently smooth it over your face. It’ll feel so fresh — because it closes the pores, tightens and tones your skin and restores the natural pH balance (acid level that helps repel bacteria).
• You can purchase a bottle of witch hazel for a toner, inexpensively, from the drugstore.
Some girls like to keep toner in their PE locker at school to freshen up their skin after perspiring
during phys.ed.
Step Three: Moisturizing Your Face: — time: 15 seconds
• Moisturizers will smooth, soften and hydrate your skin . . . and give you a fresh kind of glow
• There are facial moisturizing lotions made especially for teens . . . because right now your skin may have some real oil spots. Oil prone skin responds to a lightweight, oil absorbing formula . . . or an oil-free formula. You can talk to a skin care consultant and she’ll help you choose what’s best for your skin type.
• You’ll love applying a small amount of moisturizing lotion (dime size) over your entire face.
Some moisturizers and makeup have an SPF (sun protection factor) in them of at least 15. That means it will protect your skin from UVA and UBA rays 15 times longer than if you don’t use anything. That’s really important for faces.
Remember: the sun’s rays are strongest and most damaging between 11 AM and 2 PM.
Hey . . . . Junior Heart Point Girls . . .
(ages 10 to 12)
Ask your Mom about facial skin care. Maybe, for now, all you need is warm water and a face cloth to remove bacteria, dirt and environmental factors that stick to your skin.
• If you start now to take good care of your face, you’ll be setting the stage for the kind of skin care routines later on, that help us have beautiful, healthy skin all our lives.
Final Words on Skin Stuff:
• It’s really easy and fast to have your own skin care program !
• There’s a secret to skin care, Hon. The secret is ‘consistency’. You hafta use it every day. (Some girls use it morning and night.)
• Some companies produce cleansers and moisturizers that go together . . . that means they’re formulated to work with each other. There are lightweight systems like that for teens. Use small amounts of your product because it is highly concentrated. Usually it’ll last you about 3 to 4 months.
Remember — skin care’s worth it. Everybody sees your face !
