Jake: From a Guy's Perspective

Hey, little Sis - It's me, Jake, your big bro' here giving you the scoop on some major differences between guys and girls. I figure that if you understand how guys think - you'll be ahead of the game in relating to dudes, ok.

Now . . . . you've got to understand how a guy's brain works: - We guys mostly talk about what we 'think' . . . while girls mostly talk about what you 'feel'. Guys give opinions using language like, 'I think that was cool', or 'I think the whole thing sucks'.

Girls talk like this: 'I feel so out of it', or 'I feel really good in this outfit'. It's all due to the way God wired up our brains as girls and guys. It's like guys' brains have separate boxes and we major our time in the sections we excel at, instead of where we stink. Guys like to watch sports on TV. That's it. Or we like to eat. That's it . . . one focus at a time . . . that's the deal. Girls watch TV, do homework, braid your hair, look through a magazine and talk on the cell - all at once. That's because your brains have tons of little synapses that make quick movements from one topic to another. Girls can multitask; guys like to go down one road at a time - like simple.

Combining everything girls do all at once, would make a guy freak out! But that's not anybody's fault; it's just how girls and guys function. You girls, for example express your opinions, your spiritual sense, and your social and emotional stuff all in one conversation. Guys can end up confused and overwhelmed by that, because we have problems bouncing from one topic to another.

Did guys and girls design themselves to be that way? Nah . . . God created the first man, Adam, to have the same thinking mode guys have today. Read chapter 2 of the Bible, and you'll see how God basically admits that this dude wasn't meant to make it on his own. Genesis 2:18 And so, God crafted a female 'being' whose brain and bod totally complimented Adam's. She was relational and creative and she probably loved to talk up a storm. God knew exactly what He was doing!

You know, understanding how and why we're different helps us get hold of the whole guy/girl thing better. Guys, for example, tend to use the left brain hemisphere more, so they think and talk from a pure logic perspective. Girls use the left and right hemispheres together - the logical and emotional sides at the same time. That's why you have the 'gift of the gab' . . . and you're great at remembering what everybody said. Guys value a girl's kindness . . . her compassion, more than any other character trait. Girls value the quality of strength and protection in a guy. Think about that, Sis . . . because knowing how that balance works is a huge step in a guy/girl relationship.

Now - I 'm going to put you in the know with some brotherly tips that you might never have heard before: So here goes -

By now I hope you've grabbed hold of the goods on how special and mysterious and sensitive and smart and creative and zany and beautiful God has made you! You are a girl . . . and you are fabulous. Don't ever forget it!
