What A Girl Wears
Hey!This is your big bro, Jake, talkin’ at ya’. If you were my little sister, there’s stuff I’d want you to know …guy stuff … so listen up, ok?
I’ve noticed that girls your age are wearing some crazy clothes … I mean when you bend down, we see your thong. When you lean over we see down your shirt. And when you reach for something we see your belly. Is this intentional? Let me tell you how this impacts guys.
When guys see the different parts of girls’ bodies because of their clothes (or lack thereof) it sends us a message. It tells us that we should think about your bellies, butts and breasts (and believe me…we don’t need any more help with this) rather than thinking about who you are on the inside – the person God created you to be.
Though we were created to enjoy the ‘assets’ God gave you…if you know what I mean…we were created to enjoy them within a certain context – marriage! Surprising eh?
Hey, little sister …. You’re not an object, you are a unique person. What are you passionate about? What do you love? What do you hate? What’s your favourite colour, favourite movie, favourite book? What makes you snort milk out your nose because you’re laughing so hard? Do you carry pain; what makes you cry? Who are you? I mean, deep down in your soul…who are you? This is important – it really is!
But you know what? If you are saying to a guy that he should just look at your body rather than your mind, your soul, your spirit, then … he will. Then, when guys get together like a bunch of ‘dogs’ with one thing on their minds, they’ll talk about your ‘assets’ in ugly comparative ways, like you’re just a piece of meat. Maybe you haven’t thought about this before but think about it now… the clothes you wear do communicate something. What do you want them to say?
I hope the next time I see you, your clothes will say, “Don’t look at my back tattoo or thong, don’t look down my shirt or navel ring – I’m a girl with a lot to offer; get to know me for who I am – for who God created me to be.”
So, this is a guy’s perspective…a guy who cares about you!
Your big bro,
Jake
